Another popular type of PRC housing after the Second World War was made by Wates Construction. These PRC homes were built to replenish the housing shortage and are now listed as defective housing due to the corrosion issues experienced with their concrete and steel construction.

There are several ways to repair a Wates house to achieve a PRC Certificate, though some ways are more effective than others.

The best and most popular method is with the PRC Homes Ltd full license repair scheme. This involves replacing the interior supports with RSJ steel beams and removing all of the external concrete panels and replacing them with traditional brick walls. This is the most accepted form of repair for most money lenders and should ensure the best chance of arranging a mortgage on the property.

The other Wates home PRC repair methods do not replace the concrete and steel support columns with the RSJ steel beams and can therefore make obtaining a mortgage or finance very difficult. Instead, they only replace or wrap the external concrete walls with brick walls.

When looking to buy a Wates PRC home be sure to check which PRC Certificate was issued as a new brick exterior does not necessarily mean that the interior supports have been repaired, and you may struggle to purchase the property on finance.

Wates PRC repair case studies

SC Construction and Build, came to our home in leeds in august 2009. Our house was a Wates PRC house, so there was a lot of banging and mess,we had no front door or windows and myself and our 12 year daughter stayed in the house while the work was going on. 

Every night when I came home the inside of the house was clean and tidy, after 5 weeks the windows and doors went in, we were so pleased.
